Wugazi - 13 Chambers (2011)

Mash Up, Hip-Hop, Alt Rock

This album is sheer fucking genius. The indisputable Wu-Tang Clan meets alt rock legends Fugazi. This album is getting a lot of attention on the internet right now. HIGHLY recommended.

Snot - Get Some (1997)

Nu Metal, Hardcore Punk, Funk Metal

I grew out of all that rap rock shit after high school, but this is one album I refuse to let go. To put these guys in the same category as Limp Bizkit is incredibly misleading, however if you don't like rap rock then chances are you won't like this album. That being said, when it comes to this genre, Snot really is the cream of the crop, I've always considered them the Sublime of Nu Metal bands. Sadly, the group disbanded in '98 after a tragic car accident resulted in the death of singer Lynn Strait and his boxer Dobbs, who will forever be immortalized on the cover of Snot's only album.  A tribute album entitled Strait Up was put together in 2000 by the rest of the band and some of Lynn's close friends from bands like Slipknot, Soulfly, Hed pe, Incubus, Sevendust, Korn and System of a Down, so if this album just isn't enough there's some good tunes on that one too.

Immortal Technique- The 3rd World (2008)

Hip-Hop, Underground, Political

The 3RD World (Technique's last album) came out 4 years ago, and I've been suffering ever since. His lyrics are extremely political and the beats are always top notch.  In a way I find it suspicious that Technique isn't more popular than he is, it's almost as if what he's saying is so close to the truth that it would be detrimental if his music were more widespread. Two albums are rumored to be in the works, but so far no official word has come from Technique's camp, which is why I follow him on Twitter so when an album finally is released, I'll know as soon as possible. He's basically the only rapper whose career I follow intently and although I don't always agree with his political views (most of the time I do), there are very few MC's out there doing what Technique is doing, and none of them do it as well. Technique is also an avid supporter of illegal file sharing, so you can download his music guilt free.

Odd Future - Radical (2010)

Alternative Hip-Hop, LA Collective

Dope. As. Fuck. The second release from the west coast underground hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All.  Radical is everything that's missing from mainstream hip-hop. Abrasive, offensive and not over-produced like so much modern pop rap seems to be.

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia (2002)

Progressive Rock, Alt Metal, Psychedelic

These guys are great, although I'm sure there's plenty of Porcupine Tree fans who will hate me for choosing this album to post, as it was their first release on a major label and their most commercially successful album to date. But whatever. It's a great band and if you're not familiar, this album is a great place to start.  I think one of the coolest things about In Absentia, besides the way they seamlessly blend hard metal riffs, acoustics and instrumentals, is that it's a concept album. Well, sort of. Many of the songs on the album conceptually explore the mental progression of a serial killer. And while I don't think that it has ever been officially confirmed by the band, the song titles and lyrics definitely back up that theory. Anyway, I really love this album, made me an instant fan.
