XTC - Wasp Star (2000)

New Wave, Alt Rock, Psychedelic Pop

I know I already posted a XTC album a few months back, but I've been listening to this one non stop and had to share.  Is indie pop a genre?

XTC - Boarded Up

KillRadio - Raised On Whipped Cream

Punk, Post-Punk, Revival

This is one of my favorite modern punk albums. Energetic, angry, demanding, everything you want in a punk album. Mixing punk, hardcore, ska and hip-hop, KillRadio tackles a range of societial ills, from public education to modern radio programming. They havn't  released much material, just this full length and a couple of EP's and there are even rumors that the band has split up, but surprise apperances on the Warped Tour have kept the fans hopeful.

KMD - Black Bastards (1994)

Hip-Hop

This little gem was originally set to be released in '94, but apparently Elektra Records found the cover too offensive. Ironically, 8 years later in 2001, Sub Verse Records decided to do the right thing. KMD, which stands for Kausing Much Damage, probably gained most of their modern popularity for launching the career of MF Doom, who later rereleased Black Bastards on his own label Metal Face.  Well the album speaks for itself.  Great nostalgic 90's hip-hop. Try mediafire.

Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math (2011)

Alt Rock, Progressive

Don't worry, it's not really an orchestra, but rather a very refreshing alternitive Atlanta based band which formed in 2005. This is their third and latest album.  Here's a quote from Andy Hull, the band's vocalist, explaining the concept of the album. Very relatable.

"It's a story about a 23-year old who questions everything from marriage to love to religion to sex. Sometimes even for myself, it’s difficult to decipher which one I’m actually talking to. Everything I’ve written in the past has been about those things. This album is the most realized form of my questioning.”

Manchester Orchestra - Mighty

Hefner - Dead Media (2001)

Indie Rock, Urban Folk, Minimal

Discovered this album when it was re-released this year. Pretty cool stuff. Simple & catchy. I'm reading their wiki page now and it looks like this was their last album, so if you like this you'll probably like their older stuff better.

Weedeater - Jason, The Dragon (2011)

Slugde, Stoner

This is a hard one folks. Here's where we seperate the occasional stoner fans from the ones who are up to their dirty disgusting necks.  Jason, The Dragon was released back in March, and it's taken me 6 months to fully realize how good it is. The title and cover art grabbed me right away, but the album took a few listens. As primitive as the album sounds, there's still a lot going on, but it's mostly big drums and classic stoner riffs. Nice gooey heaviness.

The Hellacopters - By The Grace Of God

Garage Rock, Punk

Haven't heard any of their other stuff but this is a great album, came out in 2002. Couldn't find the song I wanted to post but this would be my second choice...
